Home health, physical therapy and nutrition experts will share invaluable tips and techniques for safe hands-on caregiving during the The Hands-On Skills Workshop for Family Caregivers. Other presentations will be delivered on topics including dementia strategies, mindful movement and compassion fatigue. The goal of the workshop is to help caregivers take care of themselves as they care for their loved ones.

Your Partner In Serving Older Adults, Persons with Disabilities & Caregivers

This free workshop is for nonprofit, healthcare and government professional care managers. It provides an overview of the many services and resources provided by the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area and the Aging and Disability Resource Center of the Capital Area.

Living with Chronic Conditions

The Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area will host a Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions program for older adults on Tuesdays starting April 21. This six-week, evidence-based program will be held online through a video conference platform.

The program teaches older adults, 60 and older, with chronic illnesses the skills needed in the day-to-day management of treatment and to maintain and increase one’s activities.

Using a group setting to give a shared learning experience, the program teaches techniques that will let individuals do the following:

  • Manage Symptoms
  • Incorporate Exercise
  • Monitor Nutrition
  • Talk with Your Doctor
  • Make Informed Treatment Decisions
  • Deal with Emotions

This program will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 21 through May 26.

The course is free, but participation is limited.

Living a Health Life with Chronic Conditions is a chronic disease self-management program that runs for six-weeks. It teaches older adults, 60 and older, with chronic illnesses the skills needed in the day-to-day management of treatment and to maintain and increase one’s activities.

Using a group setting to give a shared learning experience, the program teaches techniques that will let individuals do the following:

  • Manage Symptoms
  • Incorporate Exercise
  • Monitor Nutrition
  • Talk with Your Doctor
  • Make Informed Treatment Decisions
  • Deal with Emotions
  • Control Stress

This six-week program will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m., Tuesdays, April 28 to June 2, 2020.

This program will be held at the Well Branch Library in Austin.
