Emergency Management Standard Training Course

The Emergency Management Standard Training Course will provide emergency management, preparedness, and homeland security personnel with valuable information regarding the 2016 Emergency Management Standard and its application. At the end of the course, participants may choose to certify as Accreditation Managers and/or Assessors. Serving as an Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) Accreditation Manager and/or an EMAP Assessor is an excellent way to serve the public and the profession of emergency management while broadening one’s knowledge of emergency management practices. The primary purpose of this training is to provide the necessary information, tools, and resources for personnel wishing to become an EMAP expert—whether to assist their Emergency Management Program achieve accreditation or build their Emergency Management Program and/or become a member of the EMAP Assessor Cadre.

Specifically, participants will be oriented to the following key topics:

  • Obtain a basic understanding of EMAP including the steps involved in the EMAP Accreditation Process.
  • Examine the 2019 Emergency Management Standard.
  • Understand how the 2019 Emergency Management Standard can be used to build Emergency Management Programs in the local, state, higher education, and private sectors.
  • Understand the responsibilities and expectations of an Accreditation Manager, Assessor, and Assessment Team Leader.
  • A brief tutorial on how to use the online EMAP Program Assessment Tool to conduct a gap analysis of Emergency Management Programs, document Emergency Management Program rationales, and incorporate Assessor findings.

This training will be instructor lead, focused on the 2019 Emergency Management Standard. The two-day training will encourage open participation and discussion regarding the Emergency Management Standard and its application.

RNS Dispatcher

This training will concentrate on the policies and practices of sending basic notifications through CAPCOG’s Regional Notification System (RNS), Everbridge. Anyone unfamiliar with the Everbridge system and may be responsible for issuing emergency alerts and notifications to resident in the 10-county region should receive this training.

This course addresses the following learning objectives: 

  • Understand the purpose of the RNS
  • Understand the RNS Organizational Structure
  • Understand the process of sending a Basic Notification

Before you register, please ensure that your Everbridge credentials are valid by logging into the system before you register for the class. You will need to log in to the Everbridge system during the training. If you have any questions or need assistance with accessing your Everbridge credentials, please contact Matt Zimmerman

Each student is required to bring their own laptop and identification proving their employment with a valid Agency.
