Entrance Exam - Basic Peace Officer Course 91 or 92 (FT Day and PT Evenings)

Prospective Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) candidates need to take and pass an entrance exam before they qualify for enrollment in the Regional Law Enforcement Academy’s BPOC No. 91  (FT Day) or 92 (PT Night), TENTATIVELY scheduled to start Monday, June 22, and Sept. 21, 2020 respectivelyBPOC 92 is a Part-Time, Evening class held either at CAPCOG or possibly at a satellite location.

The timed exam is a four-part test covering basic mathematics, reading comprehension, grammar, and writing skills. Candidates must score at least a 70 on each section of the exam. Further BPOC qualification instructions will be given after the exam.

BPOCs are designed to meet the initial training requirements mandated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) for becoming a Certified Texas Peace Officer and to prepare students to take the State's Peace Officer Licensing Exam.

Subjects are taught by TCOLE Certified Peace Officers to meet standardized objectives and to prepare students for the realities of working as a peace officer. Many subjects are taught in an academic setting, while others are taught as 'hands-on' practical lessons.

This is an 8-9 month, part-time, Basic Peace Officer Course Academy (police training) designed to meet the educational needs of working adults. It runs from 6:00PM to 10:00PM, Monday through Thursday, and most Saturdays from 8:00AM to 5:00PM

May 15, 2020, 1:00pm – 4:30pm

Cost: $50.00

Special Instructions:

We will need to ‘split’ the May 15th Entrance exam occurrences into two sessions, one from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and one from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm in order to keep the number of people to a minimum in the classroom.  We will now hold the exam in the Lantana Conference room since it’s a much bigger space and everyone will be able to spread out while taking the test. You will come through the main entrance of CAPCOG and come to Suite 155, instead of 165.

*Class 91 Registrants will attend the Morning session: Please arrive by 8:15 am. We will start the test promptly at 8:30. If you pass, you will stay for a brief orientation on how to complete the enrollment packet and the due dates for your documents, tuition and uniform order.

*Class 92 Registrants will attend the Afternoon session: Please arrive by 1:15 pm. We will start the test promptly at 1:30 pm. If you pass, you will stay for a brief orientation on how to complete the enrollment packet and the due dates for your documents, tuition and uniform order.

Please follow the rules below when you show up to take the exam at your designated session:

Wear a mask at all times while in the CAPCOG building.
Fill out a screening form stating you have not been in contact with anyone who may have been exposed to Covid-19 and you are currently NOT sick or running a fever.
Bring your own pen or pencil for the test
Bring hand sanitizer with you to sanitize your area and your hands before, during and after the test.
Maintain a minimun of 6 feet between yourself and others, both in the classroom and in the lobby or breakroom, while waiting on tests to be graded.
I will also have a mask and will honor the above requirements. I have been in quarantine at home for the last month and will continue to do so until the day of the exam. I also will certify that I have not been exposed nor do I have a fever.

Failure to comply with the above rules, which are meant for everyone’s safety, will disqualify you from taking the Exam on May 15th.

Agency-Sponsored Cadets: Exempt from taking the entrance exam. Please email your full name and phone # and email; your supervisor's first and last name, email address, and the name of the sponsoring agency to BPOC@capcog.org. We will send the Agency required documents to your supervisor for completion. When the agency documents have been completed, you will need to schedule a time to turn them in and attend a mandatory BPOC orientation at the CAPCOG office. The deadlines for paperwork and tuition will be discussed with your supervisor.

Please visit the CAPCOG training website to learn more about the BPOC qualifications.
