Adapting your Leadership Style

Exciting 8-hour workshop which suggests an approach which incorporates the following: Being an effective leader requires that we model the behaviors we want to see in others; we must communicate with passion and conviction; engagement and involvement of our staff is essential to our success; we must foster collaboration across our agency.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify and discuss the qualities of a truly effective leader
  • Make the mental shift from individual productivity to influencing others
  • Recognize style differences in others and cater to their preferences
  • Build rapport using verbal and nonverbal messages
  • Conduct constructive one-on-ones
  • Give positive and negative feedback to different styles
  • Develop individual motivation approaches for employees
  • Facilitate a meeting effectively

Dr. Gene Smith is a Nationally recognized keynote, motivational speaker and educator. He is the founder and CEO of Dr. Gene Smith Training and Consulting. He is the former Chief of Staff for Williamson County Emergency Communications in Georgetown, TX. Gene speaks at a number of conferences and symposiums each year as well as conducting in-service classes and workshops for various agencies across the country. He has a genuine love and respect for those dedicated to Public Safety. His dynamic and often humorous approach is one of encouragement, motivation and inspiration.

Dress Code: To promote a professional training environment, CAPCOG requires proper professional attire. T-shirts, shorts, leggings, and flip-flops are prohibited.

Attendee must provide their PID # to receive TCOLE credit for courses taken through CAPCOG.

CAPCOG provides training for the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) in our region at no cost to 9-1-1 telecommunicators and their departments.

When space is reserved for a 9-1-1 training class offered by CAPCOG, students or the supervisor who made the reservation must cancel such reservation at least two business days prior to start of the class. If not, payment for the class will be invoiced to the appropriate agency for the "no show".
