The Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area and the Aging Services Council of Central Texas are hosting Dr. Barry Jacobs for their Tackling Family Caregiving Together virtual presentation, which seeks to inform family caregivers on how to better partner in managing care for their loved ones.

Dr. Jacobs will discuss the following topics throughout the presentation:

  • Means for adult siblings to develop consensus about a parent’s needs
  • Forging agreements to divvy up caregiving responsibilities fairly
  • Creating regular meetings to increase communication
  • Fostering trust
  • Establishing action plans

The presentation also will provide insight on how birth order, gender roles, and family dynamics impact family caregiving and its norms. Case illustrations will be used throughout the presentation to highlight examples for family members.
